The Challenge: 

The Head of Facilities at D Young & Co approached us with a decarbonising project. Her vision; to remove their Southampton office’s reliance on Conventional Fuels. 

With escalating energy costs and the 5 office floors adopting a remote working philosophy, full occupancy was not a regular occurrence, since Covid. So, the firm were acutely aware of the building’s inefficiencies, running on conventional gas boilers to radiators for heating and a basic chilled water fan coil system for comfort cooling on warmer days. 

The building had a very basic on/off ventilation system. Which meant they were always delivering a constant volume of fresh air, whether there were 5 or 500 people in the building and with only local temperature controls, the building had become terribly inefficient.

Our client wanted to decarbonise the building, reduce running costs and provide employees with a better working environment. Mindful of fluctuating temperature requirements throughout the year, air change rates and ventilation requirements in occupied office spaces.

framework budget.

FORTH^® Approach:

To develop the right strategy to completely refurbish the existing rooftop plant room, supplying 5 occupied floors of cellular and open plan office environments. 

The FORTH^® team started by conducting a full site survey, lasting several weeks. 

We proposed a comprehensive wish list of what we could do and the potential impact/cost benefit – honed down eventually into a detailed project scheme – ensuring the team would get the most efficient building whilst working within the budget.
